English Easy double surface glider. Just a step up from a single surface glider. Mellow and predictable handling.

Deltaplane Deltaplane : Rage

English Moyes bought the rights to manufacture the Rage after Enterprise Wings closed in 1995. They renamed it the Max. I have the last Rage frame built by Enterprise, it now has a Moyes Max sail. I love this glider. Handles well, never any bad suprises. It still performs well against other current intermediate wings.

English I purchaes a midi-stinger from Bill Moyes in the mid 1970's.It was ordered with roach tips and deflexers. It was great to fly but I sometimes stalled a wingtip which got the heart rate up. I flew it at Lennox Head,Murdering Gully and Mt Blackheath.I still have it hanging up in the garage but haven't flown it for 29 years.

English This is a very nice glider for a small light pilot. The glider is quite light. The A frame is small and "fits my shoulders". Ground handelling. - Mine has an odd nose down witch - more accurately there are TWO angels that the nose wants to sit at, one fairly nose down. This is disconcerting, but once I realised what was going on, it has not caused any problems. - Otherwise the glider is very nice to take off / Launch. I DO NOT know if this is unique to my glider or not. Landing - no vices good large flare window. Flying, the glider has a good glide - for its age - It is not as good as topless moden gliders. I THINK it is as good - or very nearly as good a glide as moden king posted gliders. This glider has vents in the leading edge which stop it from collapsing at high speed. They seem to work, in that at high speed the Glide Angle does not deteriate as fast as other gliders.
Stright line at speed it is stable. Thermaling and scratching the ridge the glider is nice and responsive, and not too sensitive to turbulance. Handeling (turning etc.) this glider is simmilar to the Magic IV (and Feaver) in ease to handle - but performance is much better.
I think this glider is about as good as you can get for a king post glider. May be the more moden King posted gliders fly or handle better, but my Kingposted Scandal 12.4 would be difficult to better.
In my opinion it is a shame the glider is not made any more. It is also a shame the Top less Scandal was not developed more.

Solar Wings General:
The Solar range of gliders were unique in that they had 100% double surface at the tips. The key to this was a "rubber membrain" which allowed the upper and lower surface to move relative to each other.
This was first used on the ACE? - but was dropped on the Scandal range of gliders, when Solar introduced a presurised leading edge.
This prvents the leading edge from colapsing when flying at high speed.
The Solar Gliders had a reputation for being more stable and less "twitchy" or sensitive that the Airwave gliders.
Since ceasing production of the Scandal (King post and XK) gliders, Solar has concentrated on manufacturing micro-lights which it still does. I believe that the Solar Gliders are still supported - I had mine serviced by Solar / Main air / in Wiltshire in 2001.

English Pilot: Dick Eipper
Person on left of photo is Steve Wilson who worked in Eipperformance company later.
The wing is an version of Bat-Glider with changes for sure. Taras Kiceniuk made a Batso version with a change from Bat-Glider (published plans by Jim Foreman....which themselves were developed from photos and notes given Foreman by Richard Miller of Millers's earlier Bamboo Buttfly). Eipper's Penninsula Hang Gliding crew made the bamboo and polyethelene glider to fly off the Torrance Beach sand cliffs in 1971.

Deltaplane Deltaplane : Ef5

English My instructor - Graham John had the company Skyland Kites and manufactured and sold a range of hang gliders from about 1975 to 1980 on the Gold Coast of Australia. He had an EF5 in his shop and if I recall correctly may have manufactured a few.

The EF5 was mostly a Manta Fledge copy with a few modifications. Much later about 1985 a friend purchased a used one which I flew a few times.
Like all the older tip rudder controlled rigid wings it was a bit difficult to ground handle in wind as rudder application dragged the tips back - not down. Also roll lagged yaw a bit - ie the wing would yaw first then roll. But in the air it was much more responsive than the flex wings of the day (pre billow shift).

I'd say the LD was around 11:1 which was quite respectable for the time.

English I live in Australia have 2 flex harnesses and they came in quite a few different versions over the years. Both of mine have chest mounted chutes 1 with in flight head up adjustment 1 without. They maybe a bit draggy but man are they comfortable:)

Deltaplane Deltaplane : Ef5

(source site web Rigid Wing Models)
