Matt's right, it was a dream to launch...and set up, I'd forgotten about that. The LaMouette Atlas also had that feature. Very cool. None of these 30 minute batten stuffing, crossbar tensioning exercises. Of course nothing like today's gliders in performance either...except in sink rate, which was remarkable.

See my comments on the Lancer IV page on this site.

The Super Lancer would blow every other glider away, pretty much, on a soarable ridge. It was just a lovely, fun-flying balloon. Wish I still had one for those paraglider-type days.

That was me off the 600' hill at Ed Levin Park in the bay area CA (1993 ish). I attained that glider from mission soaring and the first time they set it up for me they stood it on the nose and let it drop open like that, I never could get myself to do it. I'm glad I learned on that wing (and a dream). Those flat ribs gave me the best launch skills I could ask for. They were flat (plastic) that would form an airfoil after you got wind moving accross it so you HAD to run hard and land fast for that matter as it would just drop (if you let it) so you had to keep your speed up and come in fast. I have more pictures of it (a bigger copy of the one on this page) and a few small movie clips if anyone wants them. I sold it to someone up in washington state.

I was one of the test pilots of the lancer 4 and also owned and flew the lancer 4 and 4l for tandem and advertising purposes....such a great machine and so easy and safe to fly. It is a real testimony that even after 40 years this type of design is still great to fly in kites like the Moyes falcon.
