The small Emu was in my opinion the best handling hangglider I have ever flown by a large margin. Nothing even comes close. It was truly the closest thing to flying like a bird. Now there were inconstancies in the manufacturing so they were not all the same but if you had a good one just magic. Forget the performance though!

it says hear that it has a 127 degree nose angle ..that is very wide concidering the time it was built only now do gliders use this wide due to the divergents that results if the angle goes any higher ..gliders have been made wider but failed to stop trim problems and so never got sold as many as the gliders under this rule ..a lot of single surface gliders were about 110 dedegrees and not until the comet went to 120 degrees did anything result from this so now its 130 ohighest performance gliders butr beginners gliders are still under 120 degrees ..what this means is the old style 1970s style gliders could have gone wider if a remake was done probably giving 7;1 glide as well as most gliders back then only reached 6;1 glide ..these gliders could still be remade with what we know now in 2014 but with the simplicity of back then and cheapness ..skeatesy

The nose angle of the Emu was in fact 140 degrees. Hard to engineer a bowsprit for much less than 135 degrees. Trim was very light but that also made it a delight to fly as long as not in heavy air

Bill summarised it so well. I made the sails and had several. The handling was just wonderful, just move your legs a little. My fondest memories are those with my Emu. 1979-1980 I managed 55km near Grenoble in France and landed at a refuge called Tubanet (I think that is the place) Thanks for coming to rescue me Bill. My fond best wishes to all of us that were involved. .
