Changing from weight-shift to the fledge had its moments. It was an absolute bitch to rig and weighed a ton. Ground handling was terrible, and after a few flights trying to get used to yaw induced roll, I sold it. The guy that bought it from me was killed when he stalled it at altitude and spun into the ground. Too much of a jump in technology at the time. Never enjoyed the fledge at all.
The Fledge 3 was to my mind the safest, strongest Hang Glider ever built. You could not break one in the air (I tried). It had a better L/D than it's contemporaries. Yes, it was nasty in a spin. One time at Hyner View in PA, I was spinning one on purpose. Then the center of drag (the Fledge) traded places with the center of mass (Me). Next I found myself flying upside down at 1 negative G. Deployed both rudders at the same time, which having an "Up elevator" effect brought me around to positive horizontal 1 G flight. Freaked out my friends on the ground!
I have a Manta Fledge 3 , and a Manta Fledge 2B that I may be willing to sell , and a Fox Bat Trike
I have about 400 hours in the Fledge 2B and the Fledge 3ET. The Fledge 3 was very gentle and easy to fly. It's sink rate and glide were excellent so I was usually on top of the pack. They are heavy and very tail heavy to launch so technique is required. I had a blast with mine back in the 80's flying in Southern CA!

I own one of the first IIIs. Still do. It was an amazing glider to fly. You could lock your self into a thermal using the rudders then circle with no effort due to the non existent pitch pressure. Yes that took some getting used to. Best glider to wager on in a spot landing contest. Just come in high and hot, when over the spot just flare hard and hit the boards! Bam! Right on target.
