30/11/2005 | [Traduction du commentaire original en Anglais] Quand j'ai vu un Atlas monté à une soirée du club, je me suis dit que c'est l'aile la plus fantastique que j'ai jamais vu. C'est l'aile que tout le monde copia dans les années 80/81. Montants manchonnés très solides qui pouvaient être redressés en toute impunité!

Je finissais mon l'apprentissage sous super scorpion (best of de 1981) , quand mon moniteur , mr Manucci à Sospel , me conseilla d'aller voir le spécialiste du sud-est de la france Monsieur Mike de Glanville :
Quel ne fut pas le "scandale" de voir un débutant acheter l'aile de compétition par excellence comme premier appareil.
Mike était un visionnaire ; ce fut le premier Atlas de la région mais il fit des petits par dizaines.
ce n'est par par hasard que l'Atlas est encore aujourd'hui l'aile de début par excellence .

Ce fut aussi un mini-scandale lorsque Mike, qui vendait des ailes concurrentes de la Mouette, fit voler une partie de son équipe, dont sa femme, sur Atlas en compétition.

I learned to fly on one of these, well graduated to it half way through training from a Super Scorpion. Happy memories. One of those lovely transistions to something much better! I'm looking forward to having a go on a ridgid wing after a ten year lay off from hang gliding

débutant,je possède depuis peu une atlas de chez rithner.
ayant cassé un montant que j'ai repris chez la mouette, je m'aperçois que les montants de rithner mesure 1.56m (au lieu 1.60 chez la mouette )si vous pouvez m'éclairer , je pensais que l'atlas rithner était la copie de l'atlas la mouette . çeçi dit je l'ai coupé a 1.56.
en espérand de pas avoir fait de connerie, merçi de bien vouloir me le confirmer

Rithner copiait tout ce qui bougeait. Mais c'était un garçon très sympathique qui dans tous les cas améliorait les produits. La finition était exemplaire.

j ai aussi un rithner sa y resemble un peu mé en double surfasse en vol un vré train je préferre l atlas y a pas photo

j'en ai un quasi neuf qui m'encombre un peu... Je ne sais pas combien ça peut se vendre mais je le cèderais pour pas très cher (il à trois vols d'après son ancien propriétaire et il est très propre)

Devinez quel engin j'achéterai pour pratiquer à nouveau ... l'excellent l'Atlas. J'ai le plus récent Atlas à ce jour. hehe. C'est très nouveau du tout. Mais j'avoue que je pense sérieusement à l'achat d'une Litesport Moyes.

The Atlas was the best glider I owned in the early days of hang gliding. I bought one in 1981 and flew it in the Regionals. Qualified for the Nationals in it. Then the USHGA decided to disqualify all of us who flew them and made us get a certified glider and do the Regionals over. I got a Moyes Mega II which compared to the Atlas felt like a lead pig. I was flying it alright but not really locked into it. It had none of the light feel and thirst for altitude that the Alpha had.
My most memorable flight on the sweet Atlas started south of Durango, Colorado. I found a 1000 foot sheer cliff above a road to launch from, ran hard and floated right off that cliff, caught a thermal straight away and for the next 10 miles played chicken with a developing thunderstorm that was building fast to the north and expanding to the south.
I'd thermal up on the leading edge of the growing cloud, get high enough to scare myself, then pull a glide to the south and away from it. Get low, turn back, catch the lift front again, and so it went for half an hour or so.
When the turbulence got too rough and climb rates exceeded 1500 fpm I decided my nerves were no match for the darkening cloud that was now filling half the sky.
I flew south as fast as the Atlas was able and landed on the side of the road as my ride pulled up. The rain began to fall in big heavy drops. Ten minutes later, after a quick breakdown (the Alpha was brilliant at quick setup/teardowns), I strapped the glider onto the car, lightning struck about a mile away, and I breathed a big sigh of relief. Weather changes fast in the Four Corners area of the U.S.
Atlas: An amazing glider. It's no surprise that I'm going to buy an Icaro 2000 Piuma which looks to be a refined version of the Atlas.
After owning an Ultrasport, then a Sport 2 on my return to the sport in 2005, I'm going back to fun flying on this, my third return to hang gliding as an old, no longer so bold pilot of 76.
I won't be chasing thunderstorms this time around.

I have an atlas 16 but ita has no loger its downtubes niether its control bar.
Some knwon the length of those tubes?
